Happy New Year!!!

Welcome to 2011!

Here’s some fun facts:

  • Using the Gregorian calender, this year is the 2011th year of the Common Era, and the 11th year of the 3rd millenium.
  • The United Nations has designanted this year as both the “International Year of Forests” and the “International Year of Chemistry.”
  • Sometime during the year, California will open the world’s biggest solar power plant.
  • On July 10th, Neptune will complete it’s first full rotation around the sun since 1846.
  • On April 1st, the Space Shuttle will launch its last flight.

Its impossible to talk about the new year without talking about New Year’s Resolutions.  Almost everyone makes them, and its almost impossible to log into Facebook without seeing some posted in status updates.  My personal new year’s resolution is to run a half marathon!

Here’s the country’s top ten New Years Resolutions:

  1. Spend more time with Family and Friends.
  2. Exercise more!
  3. Loose weight.
  4. Quit Smoking.
  5. Enjoy Life More.
  6. Quit Drinking
  7. Get out of debt
  8. Learn Something New
  9. Help Others
  10. Get Organized

Now, some of these resolutions sound like they can’t be accomplished unless you’re an adult.  But theres aspects of each one that you can try to fit into your everyday life as part of your own New Year’s resolution.  The first one is pretty simple: spending time with friends and family is (usually) easy to fit into your schedule and makes for a resolution that you almost can’t fail.  Numbers two and three go together, in that they are both centered around health. You can even use number two (exercising) to accomplish number 3 (loosing weight). It can be as simple as choosing to walk to the store instead of asking mom to drive, or cutting your portion of mashed potatoes at dinner in half.  And usually its  the little things that add up to the biggest result Numbers four and six go together as well. If you are a teen and have a problem with either of those things, you’re putting your entire future in jeopardy! Both those activies are illegal for you if you’re under 18.  However, if you don’t have a problem with either of those things, you’ve already accomplished 2/10ths of the list!

As you can see, making New Years Resolutions are simple, fun, and can be really good for you!
