The Benefits of Drinking Water

I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now, but I’m a science girl.  This week, I’m going to inform you about the most important thing in the ENTIRE world.  Absolutely every living thing-from me and you to plants and even creatures so tiny you can’t even see them-needs water.

Now you may not know it, but we are supposed to consume about 6-8 glasses worth of water a day.  However, you also get water from the food you eat! Eating one apple gives you about 8oz, or a small glass worth, of water. 

Why is water so important?
Well, your entire body is made up mostly of water.  Your brain is almost 90% water! Every single cell in your body requires it, and there are 1,000,000,000,000,000 cells that make up you! (Thats 1 quintillion, in case you were wondering)

Here’s some great reasons to choose water instead of soda the next time you sit down to dinner:

  • More energy!
    If you are dehydrated, you’re probably also feeling pretty tired and lazy.  Drink some water, instead of a caffeinated drink, and you might find that your energy will come up and stay up.
  • Cures headaches!
    One of the biggest symptoms of dehydration is getting a headache.  In fact, most headaches are caused by not being hydrated!
  • Glowing skin!
    If you aren’t drinking enough water, your skin is more likely to break out.  Better hydration can also help give your skin a nice healthy glow.

    How do you start the habit of drinking more water?

  • Always have a full water bottle around
  • Choose water at meals over soda, juice, coffee, or other beverages
  • Start tracking how much you drink
