Why Be Healthy?

We’ve all had those moments when we’re at home, stressed out or tired and we just want to relax, so we get a ton of junk food and curl up on the couch with a good movie.  My personal weakness is nutella with Ritz crackers, it’s seriously so good! And every now and then a little indulgence is not so bad. We need a balance, and if you try to constantly keep yourself from all junk food then you’re only going to want it more.  However,  we also have all felt that nasty heavy feeling you feel after stuffing your stomach with unhealthy food.  That’s not a good thing either.  Doctors have proven that when people eat healthy they have more energy to play sports and be active, they can focus better in school, they have more confidence and generally feel better about themselves physically.  To me those all sound like really great things.  And it does involve a little bit of work trying to eat right and stay away from the temptation of the cheaper, tastier foods, but if it really improves your life so much then why not?

Here are some suggestions for how to create a healthy diet:

The basic components of a healthy diet include the right amount of:

  • Protein (found in fish, meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs, nuts, and beans)
  • Fat (found in animal and dairy products, nuts, and oils)
  • Carbohydrates (found in fruits, vegetables, pasta, rice, grains, beans and other legumes, and sweets)
  • Vitamins (such as vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and K)
  • Minerals (such as calcium, potassium, and iron)
  • Water
