10 Ways to Use Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is AMAZING. You can use it for beauty products, medicine, cooking, and all kinds of things. It’s anti-bacterial, an antioxidant, infection fighting, it boosts your metabolism, it’s super moisturizing. There are SO many ways you can use it! Here are 10 uses for it that I thought were really great:

  1. Conditioning your hair: Microwave 3-5 tablespoons (depending on how long/thick your hair is), and rub it in throughout your hair. Wrap your hair in something so you don’t get the oil on anything, and leave it in anywhere between 2 hours and overnight. Wash it out, then dry and style your hair like you normally do. It’ll moisturize your hair, fix split ends, and make it shine!!
  2. Hydrating your face: Wash your face, and rub the coconut oil on your eyes, lips, and face. Coconut oil is great for moisturizing and preventing wrinkles. When you first start using it, be sure to not use too much, so it won’t clog your pores and break you out. After your skin gets more used to it, you can start using more if you’d like. After you put it on, let it soak in for about 10 minutes before applying any make-up.
  3. Moisturizing your body: Apply oil over your arms, legs, and stomach after you get out of the bath or shower. Let it soak in for about 15 minutes before you get dressed (or sit on anything!).
  4. Smoothing fly-aways: If you feel like your hair is a little frizzy, or you notice fly-aways sticking out everywhere, use a pea-sized amount of oil to smooth over the top of your hair.
  5. Reducing the appearance of scars: Rub oil over your scars twice daily, and over time they will start fading.
  6. Treating eczema: Rub over dry, inflamed, flaky skin and it will relieve burning and itchiness.
  7. Cooking: You can cook with coconut oil in lots of ways. I use it to saute veggies, grill chicken and grilled cheese sandwiches, and even to fry eggs. You can use it on toast instead of butter, or as a salad dressing. Coconut oil is great for your metabolism, so if you’re trying to get in shape and/or lose weight, use it in as many meals as you can!
  8. Make-up remover: Rub coconut oil over your face and eyes and it will remove all your make-up while moisturizing your face… and it will also make your lashes longer, stronger, and healthier!
  9. Sunburn care: Like eczema, you can apply coconut oil to your sunburns and it’ll help take the pain away as well as moisturize it so it can heal.
  10. Exfoliator: Mix oil with sugar or sea salt, and you can use it as an exfoliator for your face or your entire body. You can add some fragrance if you’d like.
