Football Season a.k.a Fall

The fall season is upon us and that means the leaves will be changing colors and falling off their branches, school has begun again, and football is back on television. Are you a die-hard football fan or maybe you just go to your school’s game to show your support? If you do either one or fall somewhere in between, today’s blog is for you.  Sometimes it’s nice to do your nails in school colors or just a football theme. Here are some nail art ideas with football in mind:

football1

Paint one vertical line and three short horizontal ones to create the stitches.

football-2

Another idea would be to use your favorite team’s colors and draw the football on top. Don’t forget to let each side dry before polishing the other color. Also make sure everything is dry before adding the white as you don’t want the other colors to cause the white to smear.

football-3

Another great idea is to make the green on your nails to look like the turf the football players play on. Here’s a short tutorial to create this cool look:

Paint your nails green.  Dark green looks more like astroturf if you use it under the lighter green flocking.

Paint a second coat of green, and while your nails are still wet, sprinkle green flocking on your finger. You can buy it any craft store.

Tap your nail just like you would glitter after you stuck it down to glue, and you’re done with the grass part. (You will probably still have some left on your hands, but you can just wash it off.)

Paint your pointer finger dark brown.

Draw football stitches on it with white nail polish.

And finally, maybe you just want something simple like a football on your nails. In this picture you have the steps to turn your nails into cute footballs. Whatever you do, have fun!

‘Tis the Season to DECORATE!!

Christmas is one of my favorite holidays! I love the aromas, the joy you see in people, hanging out with your loved ones, and of course decorating!! But, being a typical broke college student, it’s hard to find extra cash to decorate for Christmas. On a positive note, I’ve found that with a little construction paper and some glue, or just things laying around your house, you can make a bunch of awesome decorations that will brighten up your home. You just gotta learn to work with what ya got and be creative!

With some greenery, bows, and construction paper, you can turn your door into a cute, festive snowman! Just cut out some eyes, a nose, a mouth, a couple buttons then tape ’em up! You’ll have your own Frosty the Doorman.

This one is for all of those that don’t have a fireplace! Don’t let the absence of a fireplace stop you from hanging stockings! Make your own. It’s super easy and lots of fun. Put together some old boxes and cover the boxes with paper so it’s easier to paint. Then paint red bricks or wooden boards to make it look real. Then finally, feel free to hang up your stockings and decorate anyway you see fit.

Here’s something for your countertops or maybe even your dresser! Paint a couple cans any festive color. Wait for them to dry and poke holes in the cans to make out a letter. Spell any word you’d like people to see. Then set a tea light candle in it and light it to give off a warm vibe.

Don’t forget to set out cookies and milk for Santa!

Happy Holidays!

And now I will do what’s best for me…

With the end of the semester approaching, stress is at an all time high. With all the school work and stress of grades, we seem to lose ourselves in the madness. But you have to remember, that you ARE ALWAYS a priority. No matter the day or time, you always need to make sure you have time for yourself. I have learned that through high school and college, time to yourself is just as fun and appealing as time with your friends. Nothing is more exciting than putting on a good movie and painting your nails, or mixing up some DIY face mask cream and reading a good book. Here are some tips for staying relaxed and beautiful during a time of distress.

“Your feet will take you where your heart is.”  Your feet are a very important part to your body. They bear all the weight of the day. So after a long hard day, sit down and soak your feet in this peppermint mix and rid all the ware and tear of the day.

DIY Tutus for Halloween!!

I feel like tutus are super popular right now… people wear them at marathons, sporting events, for costumes, and all kinds of stuff. I mean, why not?? They’re so darn cute!! I have a green and yellow one I wear at Oregon Duck games, and I’m going to wear one for Halloween this year, too (I’m going to be a Zombie Princess!!). Tutus are kinda spendy, though… so I learned how to make my own. It’s SO EASY!

First, check out these adorable tutu costumes… I mean honestly, if you have a tutu and a T-shirt, you could pretty much be anything you want. Look at these photos and be inspired.

Girl superhero. Diy. Costumes. Girl? How about women?! I so wanna do this! Screw pirates and cats! We should have an avengers theme with Amelia! Lol!

Be despicably you as one of Gru's cute minions! Minion shirts & peruvian hats go great with solid blue & yellow tights, tutus, suspenders & leg warmers!

See? Tutus make anything possible…

I’m not crafty, and I cannot sew. But I can make these tutus. All you need is some stretchy band material, and some tulle. I suggest getting a little extra of the stretchy band for your waist, so you can tie a bow in the back when your done. And when I make my tutus, I get about 8-9 yards of tulle because I like them extra poofy… but you even if you only want a few yards, that will totally work too.

Here’s a quick video that I think does a great job of explaining how the tutu making process works:

Have fun!! 🙂

DIY Hair Masks

I don’t know about you all, but my hair drives me crazy! I’ve managed to grow it pretty long, but it won’t grow past where it’s at now. It’s too dry, I have too many split ends. It’s too thin, I wish it were a little thicker. I wish there was something I could do to make it look healthier and fuller!

Luckily, there IS something you can do…

Lately I’ve become obsessed with DIY hair masks. Sure, I could try some professional products from the salon… But those are so expensive, and who knows what’s in it? So I prefer the cheap, natural way. You probably already have most of these ingredients in your kitchen. Who knew that they can do wonders for your hair???

Here are some good, easy recipes for hair masks that will help moisturize and thicken your hair:

  1. Castor oil: Castor oil is packed with vitamin E and other nutrients that will help with hair loss and stimulate growth. It’s also super moisturizing, so it’ll help with dryness and split ends. Since the oil is so greasy, it’s a good idea to dilute it by adding some water. You can either massage it into your scalp and leave on overnight once a week, or add a few drops to your conditioner and use a little everyday!
  2. Vinegar rinse: Vinegar will make your hair shinier, stronger, and less prone to breakage. It’s also really good for removing gross product build up. You can use any kind of vinegar… apple cider is the least smelly, but you could also use white or wine-based vinegars. Mix one part vinegar to two parts water, and use as a final rinse after you rinse out your shampoo and conditioner.
  3. Egg yolk and olive oil: This mixture contains tons of vitamins A, D, and E. All the protein and healthy fats will prevent hair loss, and thicken, soften, and strengthen your hair. Mix two egg yolks with two tablespoons of olive oil, then dilute the mixture with half a cup of water. Let it sit in your hair for 15-20 minutes, then rinse out, whether you shampoo it out or just rinse with water.
  4. Banana: Bananas are a really rich source of potassium and vitamins A, E, and C. Just mash one banana into a paste, apply it to your hair, and cover it with a plastic cap. To lock in the nutrients, you can take the cap off after about 20 min and blow dry. Then shampoo, condition and rinse it out.
  5. Coconut oil and avocado: This combo adds luster to dry hair, and gets rid of flaking and dandruff. Heat about one tablespoon of coconut oil (on the stove, NOT the microwave… that’ll get rid of all the nutrients!), then put it in your hair from your roots to tips. Mash an avocado and smooth it over your hair, too. Let it set for 10-15 minutes then rinse.
  6. Almond oil: Healthy fatty acids = soft and strong hair! Massage one tablespoon into your scalp and then rinse out.
  7. Egg, yogurt and mayo: This yummy (or…smelly) mixture promotes thickness, and is a good treatment for dry or damaged hair. You’ll need one egg, a quarter cup of plain yogurt, and a quarter cup of mayo. Beat the yoke first, then add the yogurt and mayo. Put a shower cap on, leave it for an hour then rinse.
  8. Coconut oil and lemon juice: This will get rid of dandruff and lighten your hair color. You need one part lemon juice and two parts oil. Massage into your scalp, and leave in overnight.

For the record… coconut oil is also amazing by itself, too. The extra ingredients just make it even better.

You can use one of these hair masks about once a week… if you do them more often than that, your hair would probably get too greasy. Although you can totally switch them up from time to time, I would try to stay kind of consistent with which ones you use. For instance, instead of doing the banana one week, then almond oil the next week, then the coconut oil and lemon the next week… maybe do the banana for a few weeks in a row, then try the almond oil for a few weeks in a row. That way your hair will really get tons of the same nutrients, and you should start seeing the difference.

I’ve already tried a couple of these, and I can honestly already see the difference in my hair. It feels smoother, softer, HEALTHIER… it’s not as ratty and dry looking. So, give it a shot… start taking care of your hair!!

Make Something BEAUTIFUL with Tissue Paper Art!

Isn’t it exciting when you find something that is so easy to construct, yet so BEAUTIFUL and extraordinary in result? Well, here’s another one of those gems.

This is what you will need: Craft tissue paper that is available at most crafts stores (NOTE that this is not just the normal kind of tissue paper though, it is a specific new art tissue paper that allows for colors to bleed through). Then, you need a canvas, or whatever you would like to have as the background, a foam brush, some scissors, and water.

Check, check, and check. Now here’s the very easy steps. Cut out shapes and such; use the foam brush to paint the canvas with water fairly evenly; layer the shapes randomly covering the wet canvas; let it dry; and then finally, remove the tissue pieces to reveal your masterpiece.

Untitled-4 copy

Some quick little tips though: If you would like a softer feel, use your paint brush and add more water to the top of the papers. This will create a more diluted result. Also, be aware that the ink will stay on your fingers most of the day, so if you would rather not have that happen, wear protected gloves!

But that’s it! It’s that simple! Get creative, and have fun with this!

Cute, Easy Summer Crafts!!

So I have been getting this real urge to get a bit crafty… However, let me begin with this little disclaimer: I don’t think I have EVER been considered a crafty person. BUT, I found some super awesome and super easy ways to create something bright, colorful, and beautiful! Again, prior crafty skills and experience NOT NEEDED. Otherwise, I myself would be at a loss. But check some of these out! They don’t take much: Just a little paint or so, a couple leaves and pots from the backyard, maybe some empty glass jars, and you are on your way!

This one could be a nice gift! Got any family or friends who love flower pots around the house? So simple, and so cool!

Image

Or how about this one: BEST. CANDLES. EVER. I have got to try this.

All you do is pour paint in jars, and then flip them upside down! My horrible reputation of arts and crafts will surely be wiped away once I do this one! Strangers will never even know I lack those skills…

Image

Finally, THIS masterpiece.

It’s simple, it’s beautiful, and you can make it as unique OR as simple as you want.

Image

These are just some ideas. But these are also just starting places. Whether you are super creative or not, just look at these! It really doesn’t take much. It just takes the WANT.

Go create something that’ s you.

DIY Body Scrubs!!

Image

I LOVE body scrubs. They smell yummy, they make your skin feel soft, silky, and smooth. They make you feel relaxed and pampered after a long day of school or work. But as much as I love them, they’re more of a treat that I get to use every once in a while rather than part of my everyday routine. They’re SO expensive in stores!!

As I scroll through Pinterest and look at all the neat DIY crafts and beauty remedies, I always see DIY scrubs. But every time I think, nah, that’s too much work, I probably don’t have any of that stuff anyway. I’ll just stick to buying them sometimes, I guess.

But the truth is, you can find everything you need to make all kinds of different amazing scrubs in your KITCHEN!! Stuff you most likely already have!

Here are a few simple recipes for body scrubs. You won’t believe how easy they are!

Easy Sugar Scrub

-3 parts coarse sugar

-1 part olive oil

-whatever fragrance you want!

Banana Sugar Scrub

-1 ripe banana

-3 tablespoons of granulated sugar

-1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Vanilla Coconut Brown Sugar Scrub

-1/2 cup coconut oil

-1/2 cup brown sugar

-1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Citrus Salt or Sugar Scrub

-1/2 cup sea salt

-1/2 cup oil of your choice (coconut, olive, vegetable, whatever)

-1 teaspoon of citrus zest (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, or a mix)

With all of these recipes, all you need to do is mix them in a jar or some kind of container with a lid. Then use them on damp skin and rinse. SO easy!!! Have fun!

“Cool” Ideas for Summer!!

Summer is still a couple months away, but with all this great weather lately, I’m starting to get excited!! I’m already thinking about warm summer nights, BBQ’s with friends, and laying out in the sun.

So, naturally, I’ve been looking at fun summer time ideas online, and this one caught my eye… fun ideas for ICE CUBES! Who knew there were so many cool things you could do with ice cubes? These are all great ideas for summer birthdays, BBQ’s, 4th of July, and other parties and get-together’s.

This one is so simple but so cool. Rainbow ice cubes! All you have to do is add a little bit of food coloring into the water before you freeze them.

Image

If you want to add some flavor, you can make Kool-Aid and pour it into an ice cube tray to make yummy fruity ice cubes.

Image

Another thing you can do is add some fruit. Not only does it look neat, but it’s refreshing and even healthy! You could even add mint, too.

You can also find trays to make ice cubes in different, fun shapes. You can usually find these for really cheap at places like Target, IKEA, or Walmart. Here are a few examples:
